Those of you who have been around the e-mail world for a while know that the Internet was preceded by a network known as BITNET (Because It's Time NETwork). In the US, this was the first major e-mail network and it was the e-mail system for which LISTSERV (the software operating SCREEN-L) was originally designed. Over the past year or so, BITNET has been dismantled. This dismantling has recently reached SCREEN-L's home at the University of Alabama, or UA1VM. This means nothing to most SCREEN-L subscribers, as they've never accessed SCREEN-L as a BITNET address. However, if you have been sending mail to SCREEN-L's BITNET address (see below), then you'll now need to start using the Internet equivalent. SCREEN-L's BITNET addresses look like this: SCREEN-L@UA1VM [log in to unmask] The current, Internet address is: [log in to unmask] Any questions, let me know. ===================================================================== Jeremy Butler * [log in to unmask] * [log in to unmask] SCREENsite -- a Film/TV-studies site on the World Wide Web: http://www.sa.ua.edu/TCF/welcome.htm Telecommunication & Film Dept. * University of Alabama * Tuscaloosa ===================================================================== ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message.
