Re: Film as Text A brief scandalous remark on the view expressed by G. Stavis and M. Pomerance that film is viewed and described too often as "text." Does that semiotic bias in film studies reflect an imbalance in the development (and current teaching) of the discipline: out of literature departments more than theater and art history? How many of you teach film in a film or fine arts department, as opposed to English or literature? (I teach film through a theater department, but I received a PhD in English; hence my interest in the multidisciplinary development of film studies.)
