I am wondering whether some of the more technolgically savvy list subscribers can help me. I want to figure out how to do subtitling of movies on video (vhs) using a computer to help in the process. I have a budget to buy new computer equipment right now, and want to invest in the "right" technology. The project involves getting bilingual students involved in learning about Latin American cinema, in using their language skills to generate dialogues and their translation, and in playing with technology (computers and video) to generate subtitled video copies that we will subsequently have available for use in other (non bilingual) courses. I have always used PC's rather than Mac's and would like to continue to do so unless I am convinced otherwise. I also don't want to spend more than about $7,500 if I can avoid it. Is this a feasible project or simply a pipe dream? Thanks for all your help, if any.
