You hit the proverbial nail on the head, Don.  Pulp Fiction engages the
notion of "meaning" and how we interpret phenomena or events quite
differently.  Take, for example, Jules' and Vincent's opposed
interpretations of the "miracle."  Ultimately, their respective
interpretations of the incident either save or destroy them.  Jules gets
out of the business and (we assume) survives because he doesn't "blow the
shit off."  Vincent, on the other hand, chooses to interpret the act of
poor marksmanship as a freak occurrence.  Had he been as insightful
regarding the miracle as he was about the implied"meaning" of a foot
massage, he may have walked away from the business, too.
