----------------------------Original message---------------------------- My thanks to Gloria Monti for references and information on "The Conformist." The version I viewed was indeed dubbed; I certainly hope that a subtitled version will be available at some point. One reference to the film refers to the protagonist's homosexuality. The scene from his youth which I presume that reference to be based on seems to me to be full of ambiguities, culminating in his shooting the chauffeur who takes him to his room. The voice-over narration suggests the newness of the experience to the boy, but I wasn't immediately impressed with his having discovered an alternate sexual orientation at that time. I'm wondering if Bertolucci has ever referred to this element of the film. As for Trintignant, I am a major fan of "Un homme et une femme"; I enjoy downplayed roles, and he seems to be the master at that, particularly in this film. When I checked his filmography on Cinemania, I was amazed by the number of Italian films in which he has appeared. Finally, I am dying to see "Rouge" having read quite a bit lately about the trilogy that it caps off. Chances are it will be a while in coming, since we just got "Barcelona" here. Thanks to those who have e-mailed about interest in Rohmer, as well. Do we have other fans of "Le rayon vert" out there? Dan Gribbin [log in to unmask] Ferrum College Ferrum, VA 24088
