A WWII era documentary may be of interest to you.
 
"Seeing the Light" was directed by John Huston and shows former soldiers
going through treatment for shell shock.  Huston obtained
permission from the patients to film the therapy.
 
Apparently, the brass in the
military were disturbed by the overt anti-war sentiments expressed in the
film and refused to release it.  It became available from the government
in the 1980s, I believe.
