Personally, I can't understand why someone would want to see "True Lies", or "The Flintstones", or "Jurassic Park", or "4 Weddings and A Funeral", or "The Lion King", or any other "mainstream" movie coming out these days. I saw Susan Sarandon on Letterman last night and I'm sitting there wondering why this intelligent woman has to appear on this show to promote "The Client". To me, something is definitely wrong here. But that's not what I want to talk about. Many of us have written till we're blue in the fingers over the place of politics in today's feature films, and whether films are intended to simply entertain, etc. I don't think Denise Bryson and I would agree on these issues, and that's fine. My question is whether another list exists where overly politically correct people, like myself, could hang out and flagellate ourselves and others over the role film has in enslaving, diminishing, and perverting the human population. Nah, that'd be too boring, even for me. How about a list where people just ignore "True Lies" altogether, where we can rant and rave about "Go Fish" and "Time Indefinite" and other "small" "independent" films? If such a group exists, please direct me to it, and I can stop seeing messages entitled "Re: [7456] True Lies". If such a group does not exist, maybe I need to learn more about creating a listserv. This message is not intended to make anybody feel bad for liking "True Lies", it is simply saying that their is a paradigmatic incommensurability working here that makes dialogue on the subject just about impossible. So, let's Balkanize, if we haven't already, and call the whole war off. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ Scott Key XXXXX "Jane, stop this crazy thing!"- G.
