I would agree with everything you say except for one, minor point. The circle of violence is a completely equal one among both men and women. As long as we keep clinging to the myth that women are usually the victims and men are the bad guys, we'll never get anywhere. Your point about "trends" and their effect on films and TV is a very good one. I know some of the programmers at the nets and they'ed prefer that women were continued to be shown as victims, and not in some truthful context. I had a meeting with one today and discussed this very issue with the programmer. The main audience, at least for MOW's, is women 25-40. That's exactly where they're aiming their programming. I even showed the man copies of the studies which have upset so many people on Screen-l lately.
