Dear Jay,
The to-date most authoritative English-language treatment of Cuban film is
Michael Chanan's *The Cuban Image* (BFI/Indiana, 1985). *Jump Cut* has
published a good number of articles on various aspects of Cuban film over
the years. Chanan also has a monograph on Santiago Alvarez (BFI, 1980s?)
and a nice sectionon documentaries in *The Cuban Image*. Finally, I offer
you my own short piece "REvolution and Dreams: The Cuban Documentary Today,"
*Studies in LAtin American Popular Culture,* vol 11 (1992), pp. 45-58.

Hope this is helful. If you need more details, let me know.
