derek your upcoming class in remakes sounds great food for thought: origin may not be a film. may be a film only if the the property was an original film property. (what if the property was adapted from a novel, or a cartoonstrip, or ..... ??) you get into some interesting *iconography* there. EG _apocalypse now_ was part _heart of darkness_ but too part _the golden bough_ -- the new year-king poling upriver to challenge the old year-king, etc i find the iconographical stuff interesting. remakes generally not. (maltese falcon was the third remake, and one of the rare times where a remake worked) generally, i find it to be an extension of the fear-greed phenomenon of hollywood. the remake i liked recently was _no way out_ based on _the big clock_ (a movie based on kenneth fearing's novel) too -- how about stuff like _an american werewolf in london_ where the genre stuff gets blenderized? virtually, gary gach <[log in to unmask]> ===================================================== When Elvis Presley died in 1977 there were 37 Elvis impersonators in the world. Today there are 48,000. If the current trend continues, by the year 2010, one out of every three people in the world will be an Elvis impersonator. ===================================================== ps _tucker_ also lifted heavily from _kane_
