Carol Beck states the ethical issue very well. Temple University is in the middle of Philadelphia blackest ghetto, North Philadelphia. When I tell students that North Philadelphia kids don't make films about Temple students, some students do understand the power issue. Most don't. Or do understand intellectually but place a higher ethical value on finishing a production. So the other values of respect for subjects is often ignored. Sometimes more exploitedly (that's a word?) than others. Shooting in a homeless shelter is gross exploitation of the already exploited. I was interested that it took Carol's Appalchian subject three months to take over the camera. Subjects of the same class as she would have thrown her out or taken charge much earlier. By the way: Carol, how did the production turn out? Cal Pryluck, Radio-Television-Film, Temple University, Philadelphia <[log in to unmask]> <PRYLUCK@TEMPLEVM>
