Although it won't be quite as easy as straight >mail, it _will_ get the file there intact, and with the added plus of >being compressed to save bandwith. For that matter, why not all switch to a REAL system--i.e. anything that is not VAX-related :-)--and use compress and uudecode, so that anybody on any system--even those remaining with a VAX :-)--will be able to receive files that contain binary data and unpack them for them- selves. (BTW, stuffing a document in whichever way will lead, to my understanding, to no more saving of bandwidth, because that is already being achieved by the various compress/archive programs.) Not every- body _is_ able to receive binary data just like that, and a lot of the networking that's going on is elitist and exclusive enough as it is. Jeremy, I can't quite imagne how anybody is going to use seven bits and still get all control characters right. However, I will gladly be proven the contrary. This sounds interesting.
