Cal Pryluck In response to your research question, I'd venture to say that just about every book I know about Hollywood and/or the Catskills is about the social context of entertainment, and you could do worse than start with Neal Gabler's An Empire of their aown: How the Jews Invented Hollywood (1988) and work backwards through Gabler's useful though hardly exhaustive bibliography.
