A colleague is trying to track down information about the appearance of Eva Louise Murphy in the 1914 version of Mary Pickford's TESS OF THE STORM COUNTRY (not the 1922 version). Can anyone identify the role she played in it? The regular online resources have turned up dry. I’m working on a book about Charles Raven Brockmann, who, among other things, spent parts of 1912-1914 in Los Angeles, where he mingled with some of the folks involved in the nascent film industry. One of his friends was a young woman named Eva Louise Murphy, whom he states in a diary entry appears in the 1914 version of Mary Pickford’s Tess of the Storm Country. Not long after that film was shot, Ms. Murphy left Los Angeles for New York. I assume she went there to act, but that is only speculation.**** ** ** It would be great if I could actually identify Ms. Murphy’s role in the film and describe her performance, but without her name on a list of credits, I am stumped.**** ** ** I haven’t been able to find the first mention of Ms. Murphy outside of Brockmann’s diary, and wondered if you might have some advice.**** ** ** I found a copy of the film on eBay and have watched it. Unfortunately, in my copy at least, only Mary Pickford is given a credit. **** ** ** One intriguing clue, though perhaps it is a red herring, comes in Brockmann’s 1916 diary. After watching the film, A Parisian Romance, starring Dorothy Green, Brockmann left the theater pretty much convinced that Dorothy Green was, in fact, Eva Louise Murphy. Brockmann and Murphy were apparently good friends, so even if Dorothy Green were not Murphy, I suspect the two women were quite similar in appearance. I’ve read that Dorothy Green was born in Russia, and if that’s true, she probably wasn’t really Ms. Murphy. But, you never know….**** ** ** I do appreciate any help or advice you can offer. ** ** ** All best,**** Jeff**** ** ** Jeff Weddle, Ph.D.**** Associate Professor**** School of Library and Information Studies**** The University of Alabama**** ** ** ** -- Jeremy Butler www.TVStyleBook.com <http://www.tvstylebook.com/> www.ScreenLex.org <http://www.screenlex.org/> www.ScreenSite.org <http://www.screensite.org/> www.TVCrit.com <http://www.tvcrit.com/> www.ShotLogger.org <http://www.shotlogger.org/> www.AllThingsAcoustic.org <http://www.allthingsacoustic.org/> Professor - TCF Dept. - U Alabama ---- For past messages, visit the Screen-L Archives: https://listserv.ua.edu/archives/screen-l.html
