Dear Colleagues, I have been contracted by McFarland to compile and edit a book, with the working title: Essays on the Influence of the Female Artist in the Early 20th Century (not the most elegant title I know) I am now seeking authors who would be interested in contributing a chapter to this work. The word "artist" or "artiste" can be interpreted liberally - this might include any practitioner in the arts who can be said to have influenced the future development of this area of practice. For example: I am working on a chapter on the opera singer and early silent movie star, Geraldine Farrar; an equally interesting figure might be Alice Guy Blache, one of the earliest and most innovative filmmakers. Composers, actors, playwrights, photographers, fine artists, dancers etc. would all be of equal interest. The principal rules being, the subject must be a woman, active within the time period 1890 - 1910, of any nationality. I would be pleased to hear from potential contributors, including a short outline on the proposed subject. Thanks, Regards, Paul. Dr Paul Fryer Head of School, Graduate and Professional Studies.
