I think "The Max Headroom Show" (briefly on TV in the 80's) fits your
criteria rather well. Also, the Cronenberg film "Videodrome" has a media
baron as the, well, human villain anyway. And doesn't one of the more
recent Bond films ("Tomorrow Never Dies" maybe?) feature a Ted Turner-type
as the one plotting world domination...?
