Yes.  It is an "explanation" that opens more questions than it
answers--which may be the intent.  I have to see the film again, but
aside from the many echoes of previous Kubrick films there seemed to be
some cross-referencing with Hitchcock, especially NORTH BY NORTHWEST
(remember that James Mason first has Grant abducted to a Glen Cove
estate).

It's a fascinating film that is rather different from many of the
advance descriptions--and even some of the reviews!  I expect that,
like so many Kubrick films, it will be source of heated discussion and
argument for years to come.
