in researching an introduction for a collection on violence in the media, I am
trying to track down a piece which appeared some time in the last few years --
perhaps FILM QUARTERLY, altho not sure -- which distinguished between
instructive violence -- revealing something of the human condition, well
portrayed so forth -- and gratuitous nastly vile and rotten violence. Can
anyone tell me if I am making this up, or if indeed there is such a reference?
Many thanks
