Two books on editing from my bookshelf:
* Walter Murch (Oscar-winning editor and sound designer for The English
Patient and Apocalypse Now), IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE: A Perspective on
Film Editing. (1995, Silman-James Press)
* Edward Dymtryk (director of over 50 films, including The Caine Mutiny),
ON FILM EDITING. (1984, Focal Press)
Murch addresses the experience of feature film editing, while Dymtryk
addresses more of the traditional technique. Both are slim volumes that
would be both painless and interesting introductions for your students.
