Director Samuel Fuller, whose blunt and often violent films ("The Big
Red One" [PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET, SHOCK CORRIDOR, THE NAKED KISS, STEEL
HELMET, etc.] reflected his experience as a Depression-era drifter, a
World War II hero and a crime reporter, at his Hollywood Hills home, of
natural causes, Thursday [October 30, 1997]. He was 86.
