The UCLA Film and Television Archive is planning a hypermedia Web site
dedicated to the discussion of female monsters in popular culture.  "Scary
Women" will be launched on August 1, 1997 and will include papers by such
renowned scholars as Vivian Sobchack, Linda Williams, Rhona Berenstein, and
Barbara Creed.  Papers examine subjects ranging from horrifying
representations of aging women and of lesbian desire to such iconic female
monsters as Lizzie Bordon and Mrs. Bates.  We invite all who have an
interest in discussing the intersection of gender, sexuality, and
monstrosity to visit us at:
