     Mike Frank wrote the other day:

since may of 1968 has aimed at destroying not only all foundations but the
very notion of a foundation as the authoritative source of anything . . .
indeed it has worked to eliminate the very idea of the "authoritative"
which surely died and was buried along with the author . . .
 
 
     I have been a film fan all my life.  I like reading film theory and
criticism and I really enjoy lurking on this list and reading all the
postings.  But the above passage leaves me asking one question.
 
     So what happened in May of 1968??
