Screen-L passed its sixth birthday this month and I'm happy to report
that what began as an experiment in the then arcane world of electronic
mail has evolved into something of a tradition within film/TV studies.

I'd like to thank all of you for making the discussions lively and
informative. A discussion group is only as good as its participants!

I'd especially like to thank Don Larsson for his gentlemanly (and
voluntary!) handling of hundreds of Screen-L error messages; and the
Screen-L moderators, Yang Gao, Clint Yoby and Hongsik Yu (hmmmm, all "Y"
names...), for keeping us on-track and focussed. As always, thanks go
to the University of Alabama's computer center, too, for hosting
Screen-L.

The software--a clerical robot named LISTSERV--that runs Screen-L has
just been upgraded here and we at Screen-L Central are going to be
tweaking our operation over the next few weeks to take advantage of
that. Hopefully this will be transparent to you users, but if the
"improvements" suddenly become opaque and something goes haywire, we
hope you'll have the patience to bear with us.

Oh, and I'd be remiss in noting our birthday if I didn't plug Screen-L's
own little ScreenTopia of Internet services:

1. A Web site -- ScreenSite
2. A chat site -- ScreenChat
3. A bulletin board system -- ScreenBoard

For more information on them, see ScreenSite's homepage:

http://www.sa.ua.edu/ScreenSite

Thanks, again, for everyone's participation and support over the past
six years!
