CALL FOR PAPERS
PANEL TOPIC: Tourism and Cinema
 
Midwest/Modern Language Association Conference, 6-8 Nov., 1997, Chicago
Film Studies Section
Chair, Neepa Majumdar, Indiana University
 
Papers may explore shared impulses of cinema and tourism from
theoretical, historical, industrial, technological, genre, or semiotic
perspectives. Possible areas include:
 
*tourism and early cinema
*genres in film and tourism (ex. tourism and the action film)
*spectatorial positions inscribed in cinema and tourism
*technologies of space and time
*cinematic tourism and identity politics
*the ideology of location
*the experience of viewing foreign cinema: Hollywood in other countries
