It is called DVD (Digital Versatile Disc), and after a year of struggle with
the fear of copyright breeches when the day comes that DVD also can record,
the black boxes should hit the streets i time before the Xmas rush.

Of course, a new box ($$$$ to someone). But it can be used as a part of your
home cinema, replacing the CD-player in your stereo setup, or be mounted in
your computer. That's the *versatile* argument.

In computer terms 8-9GB of data initially, 16-18GB in later models. With
suitable compression methods, DVD will accommodate a full length movie with
several different languages on the audio tracks.

Pictorial quality on the proposed compression techniques will be between VHS
and LD. Film buffs will hold on to LD as long as possible, but video rentals
will probably soon switch to DVD. It is positioned to take over for CD-ROM
with its 10-30 times more of storage space. And read-write models are around
some corners (legal corners mostly).

You are welcome...
