How about the Christmas dance scene in Stalag 17 (1953)? In that scene
"Shapiro" dons a make shift blond wig and dances with a drunken "Animal"
who belives him to be Betty Grable. The sight of an all male barracks dance
had a meaning to the audiences of 1953 different from that of today's.Or
did it?

Sincerely,
Peter Latham
