Well for my penny's worth I have seen The Dying Rooms and thought it was
superb. Reception in Britain has been massively positive and I believe it
won a BAFTA award. Now I know that the west's treatment and opinion of
China has not always been what it could be but there are some things, like
those described in the Dying Rooms which should be unacceptable in any
society, no matter what cultural differences there maybe. I do not accept
the argument that this film should be hushed up and hidden away because the
Chinese government wants it to. For prospective adoptive parents I have to
say re-examine your motivations. Is it not the case that you and not the
children will be harmed by its exposure. Knowledge of the Dying Rooms and
the expression of international disgust and disapproval is the only way we
have of putting pressure on them. When all is said and done the Chinese
Government is a barbaric regime. There are others as bad, in the west, who
get far less media coverage, but that does not excuse their actions. I
think the film should be shown, knowledge passed on, and a constructive
effort made to eradicate this practice. I think this is one way of
achieving that.
