FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

American Film Institute's Web Site Expands

Los Angeles - The American Film Institute's website, AFI OnLine
<www.afionline.org>, has been re-launched with a new interface and a number
of new content areas, including material about the AFI's newly acquired
1912 film, RICHARD III, the oldest surviving American feature film.

The site also includes a wealth of information about the institute's
activities, including the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival, the
AFI's many education programs, speakers series, the AFI Theater in
Washington, D.C., the MediaSense media events calendar listing over 450
international conferences and trade shows, and a "live webcasting" unit
for events like the AFI Life Achievement Award.

AFI OnLine also hosts CineMedia, the Internet's largest film and media
directory, now linking to more than 8,000 sites worldwide.

Projects currently under development at AFI OnLine include the "live
streaming" of feature-length films over the Internet, interactive materials
based on the AFI's Life Achievement Award winners, including Alfred
Hitchcock and Gene Kelly, and a real-time "chat area" for budding
filmmakers to share ideas and experiences.

The American Film Institute is dedicated to advancing and preserving the
art of film, television and other forms of the moving image. AFI's
programs promote innovation and excellence through teaching, presenting,
preserving and redefining the moving image.
