Present

A NEW ZEALAND CELEBRATION OF THE CENTENARY OF CINEMA

Abstracts and expressions of interest are invited for a
Conference
to be held at Waikato University, Hamilton, New Zealand.
6 - 8 December 1996

This international conference marks the first hundred years of cinema in
New Zealand. It is designed to provide opportunities for the presentation
of papers, for panel discussions, for demonstrations of cinema old and new.
Offerings will be based on a flexible interpretation of 'cinema',
presenting topics which are relevant to the screen and its place in the
past, the present, and the future, both in Australasia and world wide. It
is intended that these may range from the prehistory of cinema, the advent
of cinema internationally, its fissioning into theatrical screenings and
television, and its predicted futures.

Abstracts should be submitted by 30 September 1996.

Please send abstracts, expressions of interest, or questions to Leigh
Harpur, Film & Television Studies, University of Waikato, Private Bag 3105,
