I don't know who wrote the original post, but I'm curious, what is your
friend writing about slo-mo from the 1970's?
 
Seeing the posts, the seventies films, and the early ones, it seems the
point of slo-mo has generally always been to create drama (and comedy
through a parody of drama), though it is used with surprising paucity.
