A great many years ago (early 1950's) I saw a film on TV which I have very
much wanted to revisit. The plot involves a romantic rivalry between a young
Adolf Hitler and an actor for the love of the actor's girlfriend. Hitler
wins the girl and much of Europe. As WWII approaches, the actor finds a
reason to have an audience with Hitler and kills him. Madened by the loss
of his love and embittered by Hitler's popularity, the actor assumes the
role of Hitler and deliberately sets out to destroy the German people, by
among other things, the invasion of Russia.

Does this ring a bell?

Any help would be appreciated.
