6TH FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL IN FORTALEZA (BRASIL)
MAY 25-31, 1996

From May 25 to 31 is taking place in Fortaleza (northeastern Brazil) the
VI Ceara Film
and Video Festival. The event, an annual celebration that gathers the
most representative
Brazilian directors, is produced by Casa Amarela Euselio Oliveira with
the sponsorship
of the State Secretariat for Cultural Affairs and the Federal University
of Ceara.

One of the highlights of this year's festival is the First International
Showcase for New
Directors. This showcase will be non-competitive and and its basic
objective is to
create a forum in Brazil for the exhibition and promotion of the work of
a new
generation of talented film-makers of diverse geographical background,
collaborating
in this way to a more democratic access to creative diversity by the
Brazilian public .
Among the foreign directors and films that will be present are: David
Hayman with "The Near Room" (Scotland), Juan Manuel Chumilla wi
th "Amores que matan" (Spain), Diego Musiak with "Fotos del Alma"
(Argentina), Carlos de Llaca with "En el Aire" (Mexico), James Hyn
dman, actor from "El Dorado" (Canada).

Two popes of the Cinema Novo, Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Ruy Guerra will
be part of the jury of the Competitive section for Brazilian films and
videos composed
of 28 new productions from all over Brazil.

The festival opening will be on May 25, at 8pm with the national premiere
of the film "Corisco e Dada", directed by the local film-m
aker Rosemberg Carity. The official
screenings will take place at the Cinema Sao Luiz -an art-deco and
neo-classic architectural beauty built in 1939 , with capacity for
 an audience of 1500 people.

Last but not least Fortaleza also has beautiful beaches, little bars with
great live music,
a delicious regional cuisine and marvelous handicrafts.

Wandered why Fortaleza starts right after Cannes's closes? Simple: we
didn't want
to spoil THEIR show !!!!!!!! (just a joke)
