Dear Mr. Taylor,
See Apollo 13 for a view that is pro-American! Also Dave. Also
The American President. There are others, too. Pro-American
auteurs include Ron Howard, John Milius, Bob Gale and Robert
Zemeckis (Back to the Future), and many comic filmmakers (Shyer,
Myers, etc.). Glory is another pro-American film. Clint Eastwood
made a recent film in which he played a Secret Service Agent,
In the Line of Fire, which was also rather pro-American.
However, your point is well taken, and the reason for books like
Michael Medved's Hollywood vs.America and Richard Grenier's
Capturing the Culture, which you might find of interest for your
classes.
