Does anyone know of any references or have any personal knowledge of the
extent and type of market research that major studios conduct prior to movie
release? How much does a studio know about the potential success of a new
film? About competitors' upcoming releases? How do they use this
information (presumably for release timing)? How confident are they in
their forecasts? How accurate?

Thanks
