Many, many years ago, a book was published with the title "The Making
of 2001: A Space Odyssey". In it, there was an essay by a high
school student discussing the meaning of the movie. It is prefaced
by a quote from Kubrick stating that it was the best discussion of
the movie that he had ever read.

I do not have ready access to the book, though I do own a copy. If
you can wait a couple of weeks until I retrieve it, and are still
interested, I will post the essay to the list.
