I'm looking for a playwright/librettist/sci-fi writer to collaborate on a=
=20
musical theater work/pop opera with a "cyberpunk" theme and setting.
Ideally I'd like to work with a writer who is familiar with the cyberpunk=
=20
genre, has a strong sense of character and narrative/dramatic structure,=20
vivid imagination, and an edge to her/his thinking.
I would be the composer and probably the (co-)lyricist for the project. I=
=20
write songs in an R&B/funk/jazz/pop vein. My credits include one produced=
=20
musical (Babylon Sisters, 1990), an unproduced straight play, and=20
miscellaneous music and theater experience as songwriter, keyboardist,=20
arranger, dramaturg, lighting designer, etc. I live in Chicago and have=20
access to developmental and workshop facilities here.
I have some specific plot and character ideas that I will share with you =
if=20
you think you're interested and fit the profile. I'm not sure yet whether=
the=20
piece would be all music (in which case you would be writing some sort of=
=20
treatment) or a book musical with dialog (which you would write). One of =
many=20
issues to discuss.
[To avoid misunderstanding: I use the term "cyberpunk" as a literary and =
film=20
genre (Neuromancer, Blade Runner ...), not to describe the music =96 I do=
n't=20
write punk or techno, nor do I write "showtunes". And: I'm thinking of a=20
fantastic, futuristic, borderline surrealistic show =96 not "America Onli=
ne =96=20
The Musical".]
