Panel To Be Proposed:  "Redefining Narrative In Cyberspace" for the 1996
Society for Cinema Studies Conference, "Visual Cultures in the Nineties"
March 7-10 in Dallas, Texas.
 
Paper Topics:  This panel seeks to expand on Brooks Landon's notion that
the future of Science Fiction/Fantasy film lies in interactive
video-computer technology.  Specifically, we are seeking papers which
engage questions concerning the structure, reception and subject formation
functions of narratives which are inherently indeterminate and
schizophrenic.  Papers dealing with first person perspective, 3D games
(Doom, Decent), CD-ROMs  (Burn Cycle, Hell), Virtual Reality,
Baudrillardian simulation theory, cybercultural studies, etc. are
welcomed.
