about an upcomming Chicano/Latino/Native American student film and video
festival to take place in Tijuana and San Diego (March 7-11, 1995. I would

CINE ESTUDIANTIL '95 Student Film & Video Festival
Centro Cultural de la Raza presents its second annual "Cine Estudiantil,"
March 7 through 11, 1995.
"Cine Estudiantil," is a bi-national film and video festival showcasing
Chicano, Latino, and Native American work by students from across the U.S.
and Mexico. More than 30 films and videos have been curated for evening
screenings at venues in San Diego and Tijuana. Admission is free.
The five-day festival will include evening screenings preceded by discussions
with visiting scholars and filmmakers. A selection of films and videos will
also be available for viewing during gallery hours at the Centro Cultural de
la Raza throughout the festival. Also included in the festival is a special
conference at UCSD for Migrant high school students.
Guest Speakers include:
Sergio de la Mora who is the Artistic Director for the Central Coast Latino
Film Festival to be held at U.C. Berkeley and at U.C. Santa Cruz. Nancy de
los Santos who is currently the Associate Producer for Gregory Nava's latest
film, Mi Familia.. Marcie Gomez a recent graduate of Jefferson High School
in Los Angeles and director of the award winning video Missing Latina .
Norma Iglesias who is currently teaching at El Colegio de la Frontera's
Cultural Studies Department. David Maciel who is a professor at the
University of New Mexico's History Department and author of El Bandalero, El
Pocho y La Raza: Imagenes Cinematograficas del Chicano. Roberto Navarro who
recently made the award winning film Regador as an undergraduate at U.C.L.A.
Diane Reyna who recently directed the award-winning documentary entitled,
Surviving Columbus and also is an educator at the Institute of American
Indian Arts in Santa Fe. Jonathan L. Rosales of the Apache Nation is the
directer and producer of Running to Save Sinkyone. Marisa Sistach studied
film at Mexico's prestigious film school, El Centro de Capacitacion
Cinematografica. Her graduate film Y si Platicamos de agosto won The Ariel
for Best Short 1981.
In conjunction with the festival, a program catalog will be produced in
conjunction with the festival, which will include a complete listing of all
videos and films to be screened, as well as various articles by nationally
recognized film scholars, an educational/activity guide for educators, and
profiles of visiting artists/filmmakers.
The Centro Cultural de la Raza serves as a catalyst in the San Diego and
Tijuana border region to preserve, promote and stimulate the art and culture
of Chicanos, Mexicans, and Native American people. The Centro Cultural de la
