HI,
This movie finally got here. It can take up to a year for an American
movie to come here. And then another 3-4 months to come to Jerusalem
from Tel Aviv, a distance of about 35 miles. Why? Tel Aviv is the
city that never stops and Jerusalem closes up at 9:00 PM.
As a 55 year old grandmother who has been around the block once or
twice in terms of moviegoing, I enjoyed this film very much for the
same reasons I enjoy films in general. First of all it is very
much in the genre of the Gangster Drama which makes it very familiar.
The other qualities are the quite good dialogue, the wonderful acting
and not least the directing. A very original and creative film and
somewhat surreal in my opinion.
As far as racism in the film I think that is reaching. In clear
cinematic terms (whatever that means) the film states a plague
on both your houses. I found the Jules character to be very sympathetic
and effective.
I would like to request a favor for my colleague at the Tel Aviv
Cinemateque Library who is looking for information on the Film HOOP
DREAMS. I understand it is a 3 hr movie that came out the Sundance
Festival and has received critical acclaim.(This I gleaned from
SIGHT AND SOUND. Who is the director etc. I hope it comes here.Sometimes
independant features do very well here ie. Hal Hartley's films.
Thanks & Shalom
