Let me take the opportunity to plug some literature by a friend.
Peter Steven wrote his dissertation at Northwestern on issues of
class analysis, concentrating on a selection of films concerning
the working class. As I recall, he devoted chapters to Blue
Collar, Norma Rae, and Saturday Night Fever. It was submitted
in the early 1980s, and should be available through University
Microfilms or inter-library loan.
