        I think Judith Mayne's PRIVATE NOVELS, PUBLIC FILMS is one of the
smartest takes on adaptation in recent years; James Chandler's essay on
Dixon, Griffith, and Sir Walter Scott in the BIRTH OF A NATION anthology
from Rutgers also takes adaptation studies in new directions.
