  Film Studies at Berkeley & The Graduate Film Studies Group present
 
                The Fifth Berkeley Film Conference:
 
                         "Third Cinema"
 
The one-day conference will take place on Saturday, 5 November 1994, with
an evening screening of films and videos on Friday, 4 November 1994.  One
page abstracts for twenty-minute presentations should be submitted no
later than Friday, 30 September 1994 to:  Third Cinema Film Conference,
c/o Film Studies, 301 Campbell Hall, University of California, Berkeley,
CA  94720.  Please include your name, affiliation, address, telephone
number and email, as well as information about any projection equipment
that you may need.
 
Possible topics include: what is Third Cinema?; Third World cinema;
people of color in and out of film; independent film and video
production; transgressing sexual and racial borders; censorship; race and
film theory.
 
The Graduate Film Studies Group is composed of Berkeley graduate students
from various disciplines and departments who are interested in providing
an open forum for the discussion of film and visual representation.  We
plan yearly conferences as well as other activities around film studies at
