Thanks for all the posts.  As far as cross-referencing goes, there's always
GREMLINS, which seems to be one long string of allusions. (Dante seems to
have a penchant for that sort of thing in THE HOWLING as well).
 
Then there's Radio Raheem's monologue about LOVE and HATE tattooed on his
knuckles, which is almost a direct lift from Robert Mitchum in NIGHT OF
THE HUNTER.
 
But what about political/social agitprop, a la the animal rights stuff in
LETHAL WEAPON III? That seems far rarer.
