WHAT IS LIBERTY IN FILM & FICTION?
A unique week-long summer seminar featuring the ideas of
individual liberty, rights, the free economy, peace, and
tolerance.  Participants get readings drawn from novels,
plays, and scripts and from philosophy, history, and economics
 -- and then spend a stimulating week discussing these ideas in
a small-group setting.
 
WHO ATTENDS LIBERTY IN FILM & FICTION
Undergraduate and graduate students studying English, literature,
cinema, writing, drama, art, as well as M.F.A. students in film
and fiction writing.  PLUS: interesting faculty who guide
discussions, lecture, and give valuable career advice.
 
WHAT WILL WE TALK ABOUT?
The big questions of political and social theory, and especially
how freedom relates to art and life.  Questions such as:
 
**Why is liberty good for people?
** How much freedom for the individual is justifiable?
** What's the relation between liberty and prosperity?
       Between liberty and peace?  Liberty and justice?
**When did individualism emerge in literature?
** Does Ayn Rand have a corner on the individualist novel?
**Can films with ideas be popular?
