Subject: ADMIN: Some messages duplicated on NEW-LIST
I erred and accidentally sent out duplicate copies (in one case
maybe triplicate copies) of several NEW-LIST items last Friday
(11/26/93). There was a syntax error in the list subscribers. The
error was in a block of about 500 recipients and it is these 500
subscribers (of the over 5,000 on the list) which may have gotten
duplicated messages. As I remember there were around half a dozen
different announcements or searches which were affected. The last
item I reposted was titled
Subject: NEW: WIG-L - Women in German
I'm sorry about the extra traffic and confusion.
If any of you do get duplicated messages IN THE FUTURE be sure to
send me copies of the same item with the internal headers (such as

The ndt-net mail distribution list was established at The Boeing
Company to provide a forum for the discussion of nondestructive
inspection (NDI) in particular and its many related technologies in
general. Discussion topics are not limited to a specific industry
such as aerospace, but to any field where NDI is or should be used.
For the uninitiated, nondestructive inspection is:
the development and application of technical methods to examine
materials or components in ways that do not impair future
usefulness and serviceability in order to detect, locate, measure
and evaluate discontinuities, defects and other imperfections; to
assess integrity, properties and composition; and to measure
geometrical characters. (ASTM E1316-92, Standard Terminology for
Nondestructive Examinations).
As you delve further into the ongoing discussions you may see
nondestructive inspection referred to as NDI, NDT and/or NDE. These
all refer to the same general field of technology, the differences
being determined mostly by the using industry. The different
acronyms mean:
NDI - NonDestructive Inspection
NDT - NonDestructive Testing
NDE - NonDestructive Evaluation
In general, the field of NDI employs radiographic, ultrasonic,
magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, visual, thermal, acoustic,
differential pressure and electromagnetic methods to accomplish the
tasks defined above. All of them are fair game for discussion in
this forum.

These are just some concepts off the top of my head and from those
sent in by interested parties. The scope and direction of this list
is still mostly un-formed and up to the participants to determine by
their posts.
The list is an unmoderated reflector-type where articles are resent
almost immediately upon being received at the reflector site.
However, the list is monitored, and although the direction has not
been cast in stone, we do want to make a couple of ground rules right
off the bat.
This list was originally designed to offer those involved in the
creation of kids media an opportunity to talk among themselves about
matters pertaining to their craft(s). Later it seemed appropriate to
not limit or restrict the membership to just kid media professionals,
but to open it to the public at large. None the less, it is our
intent to keep the list from becoming a flame-fest or a place to air
"I Hate Barney" types of messages, or other non-constructive traffic.
Obviously disagreements will occur and that is fine, but understand
that there is a fine line between disagreeing with a poster's opinion
and flaming the poster personally. Since we have media professionals
on the list already and hope to attract more, we do not wish to take
up bandwidth on personal holy-wars and irreconcilable arguments. In
short we would like to keep the brain to baloney ratio as high as we
can.
Those who insist on taking personal insults and flames to the list at
large, will be denied access. Please do not make this necessary. We
ask that those on the list conduct themselves in an intelligent
manner, even while disagreeing and arguing points of opinion.
Other than that, the podium is yours. We would like everyone on the
list to post a self-introduction so we can all become acquainted.
Many have included that in their subscribe message, but now that the
list is functional, why not post it? Tell everyone what you do and
why Children's media is of interest to you.
Also, spread the word. there is no reasonable limit to the number of
list members and the more the merrier. We all look forward to a
spirited and educational time here.

The list address is almost NEVER appropriate for subscription
requests. PLEASE use the posted subscription procedures. If those
fail contact the owner of the list. We have over 5,000 subscribers
so even a 1% failure rate adds up.
I didn't feel I could reformat this in the way that Bill wanted to
without changing the format from the standard but I've tried to
