Bert, you asked us to e-mail you, but either you didn't give your full
address (@hks.se) or my mailer has a problem finding you.

Videoconferencing has advantages/limitations, like everything. You will
be able to talk to the other university, yes, but you have to solve the
practical problems, eg. remote grading, if any. You must have very
competent telecommunications technicians at your site, because many
things can go wrong with the uplink. Normally people are not so worried of
technology in their classroom: if the VCR or TV breaks, they postpone
the demonstrations, so what. But when you schedule people from around the
world to attend at a very exact time, you have to be very prepared. You can
make a fool of yourself in front of your class, but not around the world.
Plus there may be a time difference and people going out of their
schedule at some odd hour to attend your conference.

Assuming you are using satellite link, be aware that the lag in hearing
your own voice over the line may be very annoying. At least it is when
I call on the phone overseas via satellite. Maybe newer technology works
around that, I don't know.

I am not an expert on the use of satellite VC in classroom, but my Master's
thesis was a survey on the use of satellite VC for extension education.
It was called "opinions of extensions agents on satellite VC" or
something like that. You may find the entire thing I believe in the ERIC
database, if you have it. Search with my name as keyword ( I only got one
publication there, so there shouldn't be a problem). Overall the extension
agents found the experience positive but again they are using it only
circumstantially ( at least when I did the survey, in 1989).
