I would recomend one of the following as an intro text:
 
      Frameworks by Thomas E. Valasek - WCB
 
     Understanding Movies (6th ed) by Giannetti - Prentice Hall
 
     Film Art by Bordwell and Thompson - Macmillan
 
Each has pros and cons, but all of these texts provide the content you are look
ing for.
