Jeremy:
I seriously feel that moderating the SCREEN-L list would be a violation of
our first amendment rights. SCREEN-L is reserved for those interested in film
and television, therefore only those who are interested in their areas need
to subscribe to this list. We meet here in a forum. Not only do we discuss
the events in the film and television medias but we have become friends who
like to debate, argue, and discuss other topics as off shoots. Sure, some
of the stuff posted on this list is not necessarily desired by some who read it
but that is why someone invented the delete key.
Personally, I'm interested in what others have to say and are doing. I want
to know more about both film and television but I also want to know about the
friends I have made on this list. If an open discussion between us film
and television genre freaks was moderated, then you might actually lose
a major interest in this net.
We are, in a way, all friends and associates on this list. We can't meet in
the teachers' or students' lobby to discuss matters relevent to this list
and talk about the days events and what's new in our lives. WE need this
list as a catalyst to provoke open and friendly relationships. Moderating
the posts on this list would most likely kill those relationships and make
this almost generic in content. We have a family of sorts here.
Besides, an open forum type of conversation has often inspired me to chime
in with my two cents worth and thus begin a good discussion or debate. This
may also happen or have happened with others who most often lurk instead
of read.
I'm rambling and I have said what I want to so I will now stop writing.
