Alternative Media Conference -- Oberlin, OH -- Nov. 7 & 8

All interested are invited to attend Medianation, an alternative
media conference taking place at Oberlin College (Oberlin, Ohio) Nov.
7 and 8. The weekend will be devoted to sharing experience and
work in media arts and activism, as well as dissemination of
technical information, strategies and plans that can help us use the
presses, airwaves, record lables, televisions, fiber-optic lines, etc.
without relying on the corporate controlled mainstream media
machine. Medianation will be a weekend of workshops,
presentations, and discussions aimed at developing the skills needed
to access the media as more than just a number in a poll, a blip on a
line, a potato on a couch, or a few dollars in a cash register.

Participants include: - Ron Sokolsky of Black Liberation Radio
(workshop on setting up your own lowwatt radio station for $25 of
Radio Shack equipment) - Paper Tiger Television - DOVentertainment
- Dave Barsimian of Alternative Radio - Labor Beat - Diva-TV - bell
hooks - Columbus Free Press - Harvey Pekar ("American Spledour"
cartoonist) - ACTV (Columbus, Ohio cable-access TV) - Thing
Publications - Experimental Sound Studios of Chicago - Joyce
Brabner ("Real War Stories" cartoonist and originator of Children in
War Zones computer network) - Xexoxial Endarchy (with a live
broadcast over Oberlin's community radio station from their
"Permaculture: Integrating Experimental Culture with the Basic
Necessities: Food Shelter and Energy" conference in Wisconsin) -
Phillip Zerbo of New Liberation News Service - and more

Once again, the conference is happening November 7 and 8 at Oberlin
College. Oberlin is located 30 minutes southwest of Cleveland. All
workshops are free. Free meals will be provided by a number of
Oberlin co-ops. Housing is available with advanced notice. For more
