Seems to me that if this august nation was to abandon it's
ideals and get gung-ho behind some inventor's gleam, it would
be more likely to do so if the technology has some
socially-redeeming qualities, like a system of sensors on the
nations' highways that prevented cars from escaping their lanes
or colliding with one another.
 
By comparison, digitalized TV (without improvement in the
quality of network eminations) is just as matter of
"Let 'em eat cake!"
